Description

The Long Range Anti Tank (LRAT) UMTAS missile is a Turkish Armed Forces program designed to provide an effective air-to-ground missile system for the T-129 ATAK combat helicopter. Besides, UMTAS is also adaptable to land platforms as surface-to-surface anti-armor weapon. It is designed to engage armored targets day/night and in adverse weather conditions at ranges between 500 to 8,000 meters using an insensitive tandem warhead suitable against explosive reactive armor (ERA) protected vehicles. Roketsan expects to complete the development and live firing campaign in 2011. The UMTAS can be lock-on target before and after launch. Its guidance system combines inertial measurement unit, two-way RF data-link to transfer the target area information after launch to the helicopter's weapon system operator, and an infrared imaging seeker. Once launched the missile is autonomously guided to the locked target with the data-link giving the opportunity to update the target or hit zone. UMTAS missile is fully compatible with all modern attack helicopters compliant with MIL-STD-1760 standard.
