Description

The Future Local Area Air Defence System - Land (FLAADS-L) or FLAADSLand is an advanced ground based air defense system intended as the replacement for the British Army's Rapier/Jernas short-range missile system by 2020. The FLAADS-L will utilize the Common Anti-Air Modular Missile (CAAMM) family to defeat a wide range of threats ranging from fixed-wing aircraft to supersonic anti-ship missiles. MBDA is the prime contractor for this program. The FLAADS-L is expected to leverage technologies including hardware and software from the FLAADS-M ship-based air defense system. The Medium Advanced Air Defence System (MAADS) uses the CAMM-ER surface-to-air missile and is intended as the replacement for the Aspide air defense system within the Italian Army.
