Description

The T-80UM2, also known as Black Eagle and Object 640, is an upgraded variant of the T-80U main battle tank featuring Cactus improved explosive reactive armor and Drozd-M active protection system. The Black Eagle features a new turret with a 152mm gun along a 12.7mm Kord and 7.62mm PKT machine guns. The T-80UM2 is also capable of firing anti-tank missiles through its 152mm cannon. Originally, Russia developed the Black Eagle prototype in the late 1990s but the project halted and was never fielded within the Russian Army. In April 2023, it was reported that the Russian Army intended to deploy the Black Eagle tank within the Special Military Operation in Ukraine to counter Wester-made heavyweight tanks such as the Leopard 2 and the Challenger 2 main battle tanks.
