Description
The AN/APN-59 is an X-band airborne radar system designed for navigation, search, and weather reconnaissance. Operating at 9375 MHz, it was formerly deployed on aircraft such as the C-130, C-135, B-57, C-133, C-141, and KC-97, succeeding the AN/APS-38. Its antenna features a two-part reflector, with a changeable lower half that allows for different beam patterns: a narrow 3° by 5° pencil beam for long-range search and weather detection up to 240 nautical miles (444 km), and a wider beam for close-range navigation and situational awareness.
