The PKG-A Gumdoksuri, formerly known as the PKX, class vessels were designed as the next generation Republic of Korea Navy's (RoKN) missile patrol boats to be commissioned beginning in 2008. Each one of these ships are powered by two General Electric LM500 marine gas turbine and two diesel engines provided by German MTU in a COmbined Diesel and Gas (CODAG) arrangement with waterjets for operations in shallow waters. The weapon system consists of a Hyundai Wia 76mm naval gun, No Bong 40mm dual gun at the stern, four SSM-700K Hae Sung anti-ship missiles and KP-SAM Shingung short-range surface-to-air missiles (SAM). The sensor package includes the SPS-100K surface search radar, SPS-540K 3D air surveillance radar, CEROS 200 fire control system, Thales/Samsung electro-optical targeting system, KDagaie mark 2 dispenser and SLQ-200 countermeasures suite. The 500-ton class PKG-A missile boats are intended as the replacement for the Pohang class vessels.
