The Russian Navy's Project 03160 class of small patrol boat, also referred to as Raptor, is intended to operate in coastal and shallow waters carrying out a variety of tasks such as troops or personnel transport, area surveillance, interception and arrest of small boats, search and rescue (SAR). Besides the coastal environment, these boats are suitable for operations in straits and estuaries standing off a place of shelter within 100 miles. The Raptor high-speed patrol boat features a 2,000-hp powerplant allowing a top speed of 50 knots. The ship armament consists of a remotely controlled and gyro-stabilized 14.5mm machine gun and two 6P41 Pecheneg type 7.62mm machine guns as well as seating capacity for up to 20 marine troops. The 14.5mm gun has electro-optical sensors with a maximum detection range of 3,000 meters and gun itself can hit targets at ranges of up to 2,000 meters. The boat's hull has been armored with panel providing protection level 5 and 5a against bullets. The windows are also bullet proof using 39mm in thick glass. These boats are 17-meter long and 4-meter wide and can be operated by a crew of two-man. The Russian Ministry of Defense awarded the Pella Shipyard a contract for the construction of eight Raptor patrol boats on June 11, 2014. These vessels are intended for the Black Sea Fleet.
