Description

The Repellent-1 (Репеллент-1) is a Russian mobile electronic warfare system designed for detection, tracking, and suppression of small UAVs. Developed by JSC Scientific & Technical Center of Electronic Warfare (НТЦ РЭБ), it entered service in 2017 and has been deployed in Syria, Ukraine, and Nagorno-Karabakh. SPECIFICATIONS Chassis: MAZ-6317 or KAMAZ (8x8) Weight: 23.6 tonnes Crew: 3 Dimensions: 9.4 x 2.7 x 3.35 m Frequency Range: 200 MHz – 6 GHz Suppression Power: 300–1,000 W Detection Range (radio monitoring): up to 35 km (manufacturer claim), 14–23 km (field assessment) Suppression Range: 2.5 km (Wikipedia) / up to 30 km (manufacturer claim) Simultaneous UAV Jamming: up to 12 Detection-to-Jam Time: ~25 seconds Operational Duration: ≥24 hours continuous Operating Temperature: -40°C to +50°C DETECTION & SUPPRESSION Detects UAV control signals via radio monitoring at ranges exceeding 35 km (claimed). Real-world assessments suggest effective detection at 14–23 km. Suppresses drone control and navigation links across 200 MHz – 6 GHz. Manufacturer claims 85% probability of intercepting/suppressing a swarm of 1,000 small drones at 30 km (unverified). COMBAT USE Syria: Deployed for counter-UAS operations. Nagorno-Karabakh (2020): Destroyed 1 October 2020 by Azerbaijani strike drone while protecting a command post. Failed to detect or jam the attacking drone. Armenian PM Pashinyan stated the system "simply did not work." Ukraine (2022): At least one unit destroyed near Kharkiv in April 2022. Assessment: Real-world performance significantly lower than manufacturer claims. Ineffective against frequency-hopping drones. OPERATORS Russia, Algeria, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Serbia MANUFACTURER JSC Scientific & Technical Center of Electronic Warfare (НТЦ РЭБ | NTC-REB). Note: Different company from JSC Defensive Systems (maker of Repellent-Patrol). Personnel overlap — inventor Aleksandr Sarkisyan is director of NTC-REB and also filed patents for JSC Defensive Systems. --- COGINT Report Data (7 June 2023, UNCLASSIFIED) --- Bandwidth/Frequencies: Suppression bandwidth frequency is 0.2–6 GHz Range: Incapacitates drones at a distance up to 30–35km Additional Information: • System utilizes a 20-ton MAZ-6317 6x6 truck to protect a wide range of military facilities and mobile units • Cabin is protected against small arms fire and NBC (Nuclear, Bacteriological and Chemical) agents Performance Specifications: • Signal Intelligence and suppression frequency bandwidth [GHz]: 0.2–6 • Signal intelligence range [km]: > 30 • Electronic suppression range [km]: < 30 • Azimuth operational limits [deg]: 0–360 • Maximum direction-finding error [deg]: 3 • Max operating temperature [Celsius]: 50 • Max weight [kg]: 200,000 • Minimum operating temperature [Celsius]: -45
