Propulsion
The R-3 series missiles used by the Korsar system are powered by a solid-propellant rocket motor with two side-ducting nozzles. These are mounted behind the four stabilising fins, but forward of the control surfaces. Two folding control surfaces are used to manoeuvre the missile in flight. All fins are deployed on missile exit by spring pressure. The missiles have a maximum stated range of 2,500 m (8,202.1 ft) with time of flight to this range being stated as 12 seconds.
Warhead
The R-3 series of missiles are 107 mm in diameter, and are available with a tandem-HEAT warhead (designated as RK-3K) or HE-FRAG warhead (designated as RK-3OF). The tandem-HEAT warhead has a claimed penetration of 550 mm (21.7 in) of RHA equivalent (RHAe) protected by explosive reactive armour (ERA). The HE-FRAG warhead reportedly contains an explosively formed penetrator (EFP) element, capable of penetrating at least 50 mm of RHAe. The warhead section normally contains the nose-mounted impact switch, two shaped charges, and their respective safety and arming devices (SADs). A practice missile with an inert warhead designated as the RK-3I is also available for training purposes.
Guidance System
The missile is guided to the target using a semi-automatic command to line-of-sight (SACLOS) system, based on a laser-beam command link. The Korsar uses the PN-K1 firing and guidance unit for surveillance, target acquisition, and to control the missile's flightpath. The dimensions of the PN-K1 guidance unit are 300 mm (11.8 in) × 220 mm (8.7 in) × 216 mm (8.5 in), excluding shoulder-rest interface board.
The PN-K1 uses a television surveillance and sighting system, with built-in field-of-view stabilisation, or an uncooled LWIR thermal imager to acquire a target. The day sight has 8× optical zoom, while the LWIR thermal sight can detect targets out to 1.8 km at night. A horizontal axis alignment system ensures the missile tube, sighting system, and guidance system are all aligned on the same plane. A laser guidance system is used to determine the missile's position in flight relative to the line-of-sight to the target, with a laser receiver located on the rear of the missile. Signals from the missile are received by the control unit, with command signals then sent to the missile via laser in order to correct the missile's course. As such, the operator keeps the cross hairs of the sight laid onto the target, with the missile and control system determining the required adjustments to ensure a hit on target.
