Description

The Lightweight VBMR or Light VBMR Serval is a French Army program aimed at delivering a 4x4 tactical armored vehicle to support rapid reaction forces as the replacement for the VBL tactical vehicle. The French Armed Forces should get delivery of thousands of Lightweight VBMR vehicles in the early 2020s. In February 2018 the French Ministry of Defense announced that NEXTER and Texelis would be responsible for designing and manufacturing the new tactical vehicle. The vehicle is expected to be 15-17 tons with the ability to cross distances of 600 kilometers at a top speed of 100 kilometers per hour. It will be delivered beginning in 2022 in 16 variants of which 10 are basically armored personnel carriers (APCs), two will be reconnaissance vehicles and four communication vehicles. The French Armed Forces will take delivery of 689 vehicles between 2022 and 2025 with an additional 2,038 vehicles to be delivered between 2025 and 2032.
