Description

The DF-5A variant was developed in the 2000s to carry multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRV). Some reports suggested that the DF-5A was capable of carrying up to six nukes but the production model only carries three. The primary targets for the DF-5A ICBM are locations in the Continental United States (CONUS) territory. In the first half of the 2010s China upgraded 10 DF-5 missiles to the DF-5A variant equipped with three nuclear warheads. These missiles should be replaced by the DF-41 ICBM in the 2020s.
