Description

The US Air Force Project Thor is aimed at delivering a constellation of spacecraft armed with tungsten poles to hit targets on Earth. The project was initially envisaged in the 1960s and reconsidered in the early 2000s. The tungsten poles would be able to reach a top speed of Mach 10 once dropped from outer space. The kinetic energy would be similar to the one unleashes by a nuclear device without the tradeoff of the nuclear radiation and fallout. The tungsten poles are also called tungsten thunderbolts and/or rods from God. The US Air Force or the US Space Force may deploy this new weapon in the 2020s as part of the great power competition with China and Russia.
