Project 266M
Project 266M

The Project 266M Akvamarine class ships are oceanic minesweepers with a secondary anti-submarine warfare (ASW) escort vessel role in wartime. They are equipped with 20 Igla short-range surface-to-air missiles, two 30mm AK-306 cannons and a variety of electronic equipment. The mine hunting equipment includes GKT-2 contact sweep; TEM-3 influence sweep; AT-2 acoustic sweep; RBU-1200 ASW mortar; and an integrated anti-mine system for detection and destruction of sea mines ahead the ship's course, including MG-89/MG-89ME sonar, Mayevka-E self-propelled TV-controlled underwater vehicle, Diez automated control system, and MG-35E underwater communications sonar. They feature a low-magnetic steel hull and a propulsion system which consists of two M503B-3E diesel engines. The Project 266M ships are also known as Natya-I. The Soviet Navy received the first vessels in the late 1970s early 1980s with more than a dozen ships commissioned before the Soviet Union collapse. The Russian Navy intends to commission several upgraded ships called Project 02668 beginning in November 2008 with Vice Admiral Zakharin minesweeper. The Vice Admiral Zakharin construction started in 1994 for the Republic of Vietnam. In 2000 it was re-designed as Project 02668 and was completed in 2006. The Project 266ME is the export version of this class.
