Description

The DF-15 is a solid propellant single-stage Short Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM) intended to hit targets ranging between 200 through 600 kilometers. It utilizes a Transporter-Erector-Launcher (TEL) high mobility vehicle. It can be equipped with conventional or tactical nuclear warhead. DF-15 missile system was developed in the 1980s and cleared for operational service by mid-1990s. Referred to as the CSS-6 by NATO and M-9 designation for export customers, DF-15 is expected to become China's backbone of tactical ballistic missile systems well into the 21st century. Typically, China's artillery units are pointing road-mobile DF-15 missiles at military facilities and other assets in Taiwan. The real range of the DF-15B missile is about 900 kilometers.
