Description

The Pinaka is a Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) family developed by India's Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO). The multi-barrel area weapon system is intended to take out targets at ranges of at least 30 kilometers in support of the Indian Army's field artillery units. The original Pinaka was able to fire in a single salvo 12 rockets at ranges of 38 kilometers within 40 seconds. It was ready for fielding with the Indian Army after successful completion of user trials in December 2003. The DRDO was working in future improvements that will boost the Pinaka rocket range to 45 kilometers and a further version featuring a 100 km range.
