Description
The first CH-47A was delivered to the US Army in 1962 and the current CH-47D Chinook improved model in 1979. Of the 750 Chinooks operated by the US during the Vietnam war about 200 were lost in combat. After the war, 500 Chinooks were remanufactured and upgraded to -D configuration. The last CH-47D was delivered to the US Army in 1994. The US Army plans to upgrade 300 CH-47D helicopters to the CH-47F standard beginning in 2004.
