Description
The 9M96M2 is an upgraded variant of the 9M96M missile with an extended range of 150 kilometers to engage a wide variety of airborne targets at longer ranges. The 9M96M2 missile is intended for the Vityaz ground-based air defense system and the Poliment-Redut ship-based air defense system onboard Project 22350 class frigates and Project 20380 class corvettes. The 9M96M2 missile may enter service with the Russian Armed Forces in the 2018-2020 timeframe. The 9M96M2 variant may have a further extended range of roughly 200 kilometers. As of early 2019 the available information suggest that the maximum range is 150 kilometers.
