Description

The BvS10 is the latest version of the Bv206 armored all-terrain vehicle. The BvS10 is a larger vehicle with improved load capacity and a more powerful diesel engine, while retains the well-proven capabilities of precedent Bv206 vehicles. The chassis, power train and steering units are a entirely new design giving the vehicle enhanced performance. Addition of more effective armor, weapons, load-changer and cargo platforms is also possible. The Viking (British designation for BvS10) was ordered by the British Ministry of Defense in 2001. Under a £60 million ($107 million) contract 108 Vikings will be supplied to the Royal Marines beginning in 2003 and entering active service in 2005. The increased armor Viking vehicles will supplement 350 Bv206 all-terrain vehicles currently in service with Royal Marines. The Netherlands placed an order with BAE Systems Land Systems Hagglunds for 74 BvS10 all-terrain armored vehicles worth 570 million SEK ($82 million) on June 1, 2005. These vehicles were procured for the Royal Netherlands Marines with deliveries beginning in January 2006 and expected to conclude in April 2007.
