Description

The Segura-class vessels are a further development of Royal Navy's Sandown-class minehunters built by Navantia for the Spanish Navy. Its key element is the AN/SQQ-32 variable depth minehunting sonar which provides critical information on nearest mines. Besides, Segura-class vessels are equipped with two remotely operated vehicles: Pluto plus and MineSniper; Kelvin Hughes Type 1007 radar, one 20mm Oerlikon cannon; and two 12.7 mm machine guns. All in, these ships can dispose mines in depths between nine to 200 meters. The diesel-electric propulsion system allows for a top speed of 14 knots using two diesel engines and seven knots relying on the electric propulsion. The ship has a maximum range of 2,000 nautical miles cruising at 12 knots. The Spanish Navy commissioned six Segura-class vessels between 1999 and 2005.
