Description
The Japan Marine Self Defense Force (JMSDF) Hayabusa, also known as PG 824, is a small missile boat intended for anti-surface warfare (ASuW) in the littoral environment and shallow waters. For that purpose it is equipped with a 76mm super rapid fire gun with 162 rounds and one SSM-1B/Type 90 anti-ship missile. The 200-ton class ship is powered by three-axis waterjets based on gas turbine developing 16,200-shp and allowing a top speed of 44 knots. In addition to its small size, the Hayabusa-class ships also feature reduced radar cross section (RCS) for enhanced survivability. So far, Japan has commissioned six missile boats.
