Description
The Japanese Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) XASM-3 is an advanced air-launched anti-ship missile being developed to hit surface ships protected with state-of-the-art air defense systems. The missile features supersonic speed to hit the latest surface combatans. The missile development started in 2003 with the missile first firing in 2005. The ASM-3 missile is able to reach a maximum speed of Mach 3. The new ASM-3 anti-ship missile development and fielding should be completed by 2020. Mass production and entry into service is slated for 2019 being released from F-2 jets. Finally the missile was cancelled in favor of a extended range variant to be deployed by 2024.
