Chassis
The hull of the M1985 appears to be a visually almost identical copy of the ZSU-23-4’s GMZ-575 tracked chassis. Only a few differences may be seen. The North Korean model appears to have different side stowage, with four stowage hatches to be found instead of three on the Shilka. The glacis may be angled a few degrees further back. The M1985 also lacks the three towing hooks found on the ZSU-23-4’s lower front plate. The M1985 also appears to use different tracks, with a central pin and two side pads.

Main Weapon System
Note
The 57 mm anti-aircraft gun has a maximum effective anti-aircraft range of 6,000 m (maximum range 8,800 m in altitude) with the ammunition being fed to the weapon in four round clips from the left. It is understood that elevation and traverse are powered with manual controls as backup. The 57 mm gun of the M1985 is probably the Russian 57 mm S-60, which has also been manufactured in China under the local designation of the Type 59. The vehicle does not appear to have a shield, although a gun travel lock is provided at the front of the hull.
A mounting for the use of a manportable SAM such as the Strela-2/Strela-2M/Strela-3/Igla family has also been observed on the chassis.
Protection
Armor
The hull is of all-welded steel armor construction, protecting the occupants from small arms fire and shell splinters.
