Description

The Udav-1 is a short-range anti-torpedo multiple launch rocket system intended for surface ships. It was designed by Splav to counter attacking torpedoes using a multi-layered defense system. Besides, the Udav-1 system can engage submarines and frogmen firing different types of 300mm rockets working in conjunction with the ship's sonar with a reaction time of only 15 seconds. The system includes the KT-153 multi-barrel automated launcher (10 tubes weighing 6,600 kg), 111SG depth-charge rockets with High Explosive (HE) warheads to engage underwater targets (250 kg each rocket), 111SZ mine-laying rockets to make a barrier for incoming torpedoes (230kg), and 111SO decoy rockets to divert homing torpedoes (196kg). The system can engage underwater targets at ranges between 3,000 meters and 100 meters, and submarines at 600 meters depth. The Udav-1 and Udav-1M anti-torpedo defense systems have been provided to the Russian Navy's Kirov-class nuclear-powered cruisers. The Udav-1 provides a hit probability of 90 percent against straight-incoming torpedoes or only 76 percent against homing torpedoes.
