Description

The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Landing Craft - Heavy (LC-H) is an amphibious assault vessel based upon Damen’s LST100 design with the purpose of conducting troops insertion and extraction on enemy shores. Besides, the vessel will serve as platform in support of logistics operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. A single LC-H ship is expected to carry a payload of 500-ton which may translate into six Abrams tanks, 11 Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) or 26 HIMARS rocket artillery systems. Each vessel will be provided with weapon systems for self-defense only. A contract for the LC-H ship is expected to be signed within 2025 with the construction of the first vessel expected to start in 2026. The Australian Army plans call for the procurement of eight LC-H ships under the Land 8710 program beginning in 2030/2031.
