ASTRE 2000
The ASTRE 2000 is a Surface Movement Radar (SMR) that was installed at various airports, including Athens, Berlin-Tegel, Dublin, Edinburgh, Heathrow, Milan, Moscow, Orly, Prague, Stansted, and Vienna. It operates in the 15.7 to 16.7 GHz frequency range, utilizing a parabolic reflector antenna with an inverted cosecant squared pattern, a pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 8192 Hz, and a pulse width of 40 nanoseconds. The system features frequency diversity with two independent transmitter/receiver channels and duplicated signal processing, each with a secondary signal input from the other channel. A remote switch selects the video feed for display, with the output to remote units being a multiplex signal on a coaxial line, carrying individual and sum video along with synchronous pulses. The ASTRE 2000 was notably decommissioned at Berlin-Tegel, replaced by a Scanter 2001 SMR antenna.
