Description

The J-20A is a further evolution of the J-20 stealth aircraft with more advanced capabilities and powered by the WS-15 thrust vectoring control (TVC) engine with flat nozzles. The J-20A existence was revealed at the Zhuhai China Airshow in November 2018. At that point the aircraft was already under development. China may procure up to 48 J-20B stealth jets per year. The J-20B features a bulky rear canopy adding more room for fuel and/or avionics. The J-20A performed its maiden flight powered by WS-15 engines in December 2022. The J-20A may be fitted with an advanced radar system as well as state-of-the-art avionics. The new variant is expected to achieve Initial Operational Capability (IOC) in the 2025-2028 timeframe.
