Description

The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) is a light, highly mobile, diesel-powered, four-wheel-drive, vehicle that uses a common chassis. It can be configured to become a troop carrier, an armament carrier, shelter carrier, ambulance, TOW missile carrier, and a Scout vehicle. The HMMWV vehicles replaced the jeep and other vehicles in the US Army. It was deployed by the US Army in 1985, the upgraded A2 model was introduced in 1995. On 13 November 2006, the US Army awarded AM General LLC was awarded a $571 million contract for the procurement of M1151A1 vehicles and a $545 million contract for the procurement of M1152A1 and M1165A1 vehicles. Both contracts were expected to complete by December 31, 2007.
