Description

The Portuguese Navy Joao II, also known as MPV 10720, is a Multifunctional Naval Platform intended to undertake a wide range of missions. The ship is well suited for multi-purpose activities such as oceanographic research, environmental control, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and maritime surveillance and military support tasks. In 2023, Portugal selected Damen shipyard to build the ship in Romania to save costs. The Joao II vessel is expected to be commissioned in late 2026 or early 2027.
