Description

The KJ-2000 (NATO designation: “Main Ring”) is an airborne warning and control system (AWACS) operated by the Chinese Air Force. Developed by the Nanjing Research Institute of Electronics Technology (NRIET), a subsidiary of the China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC), it features a multi-function, three-dimensional pulse-Doppler radar operating in the L-band (1200–1400 MHz). The radar system, with an instrumented range of 255 nautical miles (470 km), is housed in a fixed 46-foot (14-meter) radome containing three phased-array antennas, each providing 120-degree coverage. The modified Ilyushin Il-76 cargo plane also integrates command, control, communications, and intelligence (C3I) equipment. Four KJ-2000 aircraft entered service in 2006 and 2007.
