HH-47 Chinook
HH-47 Chinook
HH-47 is a new variant of proven CH/MH-47 Chinook helicopter family intended for combat search and rescue operations. The US Air Force selected Boeing to develop a replacement aircraft for the HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter under CSAR-X program through a contract potentially worth $4.1 billion November 9, 2006. The CSAR-X/HH-47 program has a life cycle total cost of up to $10 billion. Boeing will deliver to the US Air Force up to 141 production and 4 test aircraft beginning in 2012 through 2019 from its rotorcraft systems manufacturing facility in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. The highly survivable HH-47 will serve to recover downed aircrew members or isolated troops/personnel from hostile or denied territory. The US Air Force current schedule foresees the initial operational capability of the first 10 Block 0 (increment 1) aircraft in 2012 with Block 10 (increment 2) decision extending the acquisition program through 2019. The Block 0 contract issued November 2006 was valued at $712 million and was scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2012. The program was canceled in 2008/2009.
