Description

The ACV-S is a family of high mobility, amphibious, tracked armored vehicles derived from the successful ACV 300 vehicle also developed and produced by FNSS. The hull has been stretched (longer and wider) allowing the vehicle to transport two additional infantrymen. Besides, the vehicle incorporates improved final drives, more aggressive suspension and T150 long life double pin track. The ACV-S offers 30% increased internal volume and 70% more payload capacity while retaining 90% spare parts commonality to ACV-300. The ACV-S is the result of technologies coming from the ACV 300 and and the Mobile Tactical Vehicle Light (MTVL) program. It is fully compliant with NATO standards, can transport a full infantry section and is air transportable by C-130 sized aircraft while retaining the high mobility and reliability of the ACV 300 platform. The aluminum hull armor protection has also been improved to withstand direct and indirect fire attack and the vehicle is fitted with air conditioning and NBC (Nuclear, Bacteriological and Chemical) protection as standard equipment. The ACV-S AIFV Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle (AIFV) can be equipped with a 25mm M242 Bushmaster cannon or a 30mm M242 Bushmaster II cannon mounted on the two-man (commander and gunner) turret providing fire support against hostile infantrymen and armored vehicles. The turret fitted with the 25mm cannon can be equipped with two TOW 2 anti-tank missiles. Both turrets are equipped with a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun and eight smoke grenades. The tank's crew consists of gunner, driver and commander plus ten infantrymen. The 18-ton class ACV-S requires a more powerful diesel engine to deliver the same mobility than the ACV vehicle. The diesel engine is a Detroit Diesel 6V53T developing 350-hp (or 400-hp optionally) of power allowing a top speed of 65 kph on road. The basic vehicle provides ballistic protection against 14.5mm armor piercing (AP) ammunition as well as protection against 155mm artillery shells. An optional add-on armor kit provides ballistic protection against 30mm AP rounds and mines. The ACV-S command post variant features a one-man rotating cupola with a 12.7mm machine gun as well as a comprehensive communications suite in the vehicle's rear compartment. The ACV-S SPM120 (Self Propelled Mortar) carries a 120mm mortar. The ACV-S TLC (Tracked Logistics Carrier) is equipped with a crane and a roof-mounted 12.7mm machine gun. To date, the ACV-S armored vehicle family has been ordered by the Turkish Armed Forces and Saudi Arabia ordered at least the command post vehicle variant.
