Description

The MUNGO is a high mobility, wheeled, air-transportable, Light Armored Vehicle family developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) to be airlifted by either airplane or helicopter and support special operations forces. In addition to a two-man cab, it can accommodate up to 10 fully equipped soldiers or up to 2 tons of payload. Its primary role is the transportation of manpower and equipment, but, the MUNGO light armored vehicle can be outfitted with add-on tools such as dozer blade, excavator, in support of engineering units. The MUNGO armored vehicle has been optimized to be transported by CH-53 and CH-47 helicopters, and C-130, C-160, CN-235/295 and A400M aircraft. Due to operational needs identified by the German Army in Afghanistan, the German Ministry of Defense ordered the procurement of a first batch of MUNGO vehicles consisting of 388 units with an estimated potential total figure of over 900 MUNGOs. As of September 2011, more than 400 MUNGOs have been delivered to the German Army in the three different versions: troop transporters, multi-purpose vehicles and large space cabins.
