ZALA T-16-5G Russian Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)
ZALA T-16-5G

The ZALA T-16-5G Russian Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) represents the modernized production variant of ZALA Aero's hybrid-powered reconnaissance platform, building upon the earlier 421-16E5G design first introduced at MAKS 2021. This fixed-wing, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle combines internal combustion and electric propulsion to achieve extended flight durations exceeding 12 hours, enabling operational ranges exceeding 1,000 kilometers from the launch point. The system is optimized for strategic reconnaissance, communications relay, and targeting coordination across contested electromagnetic environments. As of June 2025, Ukrainian intelligence reports 95 documented systems in operational service across Russian military formations. The ZALA T-16-5G designation reflects ZALA Aero Group's renaming convention, where "T" denotes the modern tactical family and "16-5G" indicates the fifth-generation 16-class platform with integrated 5G/advanced communications architecture. The system is manufactured by ZALA Aero Group, a subsidiary of the Russian Kalashnikov Group (AK) based in Izhevsk, Russia. The ZALA T-16-5G represents an operationally proven reconnaissance platform combining extended loiter capability, autonomous mission execution, and electronic warfare resilience. Its hybrid propulsion architecture enables 12+ hour flight durations supporting strategic reconnaissance missions across contested territories with active electronic warfare environments. The platform's deployment across 95+ documented systems in Russian military service, combined with integration into coordinated strike operations through the Lancet loitering munition family, establishes it as a critical component of Russian tactical intelligence collection architecture. The system's capability to operate in GPS-denied environments and maintain secure communications under jamming conditions addresses the primary technical challenge of peer-conflict unmanned operations.
