Description

Herakles is an S-band multi-function rotating electronically scanned radar (MRESR) designed for combined air and surface surveillance and fire control on major naval platforms. Operating at 60 rpm, it can detect and track over 400 air and surface targets simultaneously, with an instrumented range of 250 km, and controls surface-to-air missiles such as the Aster. The radar utilizes a passive phased array antenna, providing 360-degree azimuth coverage and 0 to 70-degree elevation. It is installed on FREMM multipurpose frigates and the Republic of Singapore Navy's Formidable-class frigates; a boosted version with additional power amplifier modules, intended for French FREDA frigates, may extend its maximum range to 300 km.
