Description
The W87 is a 300-kiloton thermonuclear warhead originally intended for the Peackeeper Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) which each missile carrying 10 W87 warheads. In the 2000s the nukes were upgraded (W87 mod 1) with the yield increasing to 475-kiloton to be provided to the Minuteman III ICBMs. The W87 mod 1 nuclear warheads are expected to be provided to the Sentinel ICBMs in the 2030s.
