Description

The Autoloaded and SCALable Outperforming guN (ASCALON) is a next generation tank round developed by NEXTER and designed to deal with projected armored threats that might exist between 2035 and 2075. The ASCALON round features a telescoped design and 140mm caliber with a maximum length of up to 130 centimeters. The round is expected to evolve over the next 50 years incorporating variants to take out specific targets and accomplish several missions. Nexter plans call for the new round to be available by 2025 with the aim of delivering the new ammunition for the Franco-German MGCS armored combat vehicle program. The new projectile is being designed to be fired from tanks weighing less than 50 tons.
