Kinzhal
Kinzhal

The Kinzhal, dagger in English, is a new aero-ballistic hypersonic cruise missile capable of more than Mach 10 speeds and to be deployed by Mig-31BP interceptors. It is also known as Kh-47B and Kh-47M2. The missile flies to a very high altitude after being fired to reach its intended target within a few minutes after launch. Its descending trajectory is unpredictable to avoid the use of any missile defense. The missile has a maximum range of 2,000 kilometers and can be armed with both conventional and nuclear warheads. The missile seems to be armed with multiple warheads to hit several targets. President Putin showcase the new missile on March 1, 2018, during the presentation the missile was able to hit simulated two warships. The Kinzhal missile conducted its first test on December 1, 2017, and Putin claimed the system was already operational in the Russian Southern military district. The new weapon seems to be a extremely effective against carrier battle groups and surface warships rendering their missile defense systems useless. The Kinzhal missile seems to be a modification of the Iskander-M quasi-ballistic missile. The Kinzhal missile was being integrated onto the Tu-22M3/5 bomber in July 2018, with two or four missiles to be carried by each aircraft.
