Description

The (MGBAD) is short-range, highly mobile, air defense system developed by Kongsberg based upon the NASAMS missile system. The new air defense system utilizes the IRIS-T surface-to-air missile supplied by Diehl and radar system from the NASAMS weapon system supplied by Weibel mounted on a tracked chassis. The weapon system was first unveiled in February 2017 and could achieve initial operational capability in the early 2020s. Kongsberg was awarded a 583 million NOK (Norwegian Crones) contract in late October 2019 by the Norwegian Armed Forces for the development of the MGBAD weapon system.
