Description

The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Xu Xiake is a barracks ship class designed and built by China to support its impending aircraft carrier fleet. The barracks ship purpose is to supplement the lack of Chinese naval bases abroad with a ship that can provide rest for carrier's staff anywhere. Guangzhou Shipyard has built at least two barracks ships to support the Chinese aircraft carriers battle groups with the lead ship, Xu Xiake, commissioned in 2011. These ships feature living support facilities for up to 2,500 persons including plastic runway, basketball court, gym, arena, Internet cafe and supermarket. Besides, the ships are equipped with a Z-8 transport helicopter, two 57mm twin-barrel naval guns, two 30mm twin-barrel naval guns and two rocket launcher systems.
