Description

The High Energy Laser Weapon System (HELWS) is a US Air Force program aimed at delivering a weapon system capable of taking out unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). The HELWS weapon system developed by Raytheon is capable of detecting, identifying and taking down drones utilizing directed energy. Targeting is provided by Raytheon Multi-spectral Targeting System (MTS) and whole system is mounted on a Polaris MRZR all terrain vehicle. The HELWS program kicked off in August 2019 with the aim to develop two prototypes by 2020.
