Description

The Trident D5 LE2 is a further development of the Trident D5 submarine launched ballistic missile utilizing the same rocket engines but with new electronics. The new missile should fit into existing missile launch tubes in United States (US) Navy strategic submarines. The Trident D5 LE2 missile development was announced in November 2018. It is expected that the Royal Navy will order the new ballistic missile for its future SSBNs. The latest version of the Trident II missile uses a suppressed ballistic trajectory to avoid interception by missile defenses.
