The Indian Navy Fleet Support Ship (FSS) program is aimed at delivering five replenishment ships built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) to support the surface fleet operating in the Indian Ocean. These 40,000-ton vessels will carry and deliver water, fuel, stores and ammunition at sea thus making possible Blue Water operations. Besides, the same vessels will be able to provide support for humanitarian aid and disaster relief operations. The Indian Navy signed the contract with HSL for these ships back in August 2023 with the first vessel to be delivered in 2027.
