Description
The K1A2 is a tank upgrade project being developed by Hyundai Rotem between 2008 and 2010 with mass production expected to take place after 2012. The new tank standard focuses on improved performance to meet the requirements of future battlefields. The K1A2 upgrade includes automatic commanding control, active defense system with soft-kill weapons against missiles and rockets and air conditioned. The automatic commanding control consists of identification friend or foe (IFF), position recognition (GPS + INS), digital wireless communications, and display. The K1A2 project will provide upgrade kits to the existing K1 and K1A1 tanks operated by the Republic of Korea Army and Marines.
