MPATGM Indian Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM)
MPATGM

The MPATGM Indian Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) is India's indigenous third-generation fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the Indian Army. The system represents a significant advancement toward India's Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliance in defense) initiative. The MPATGM is designed to replace aging second-generation anti-tank systems across Indian infantry, parachute, and special forces units, specifically the MILAN and 9M113 Konkurs systems. The 2024 Ministry of Defence request for information indicated a requirement for more than 20,000 next-generation ATGMs and 1,500 launchers, underscoring the scale of India's anti-armor modernization. In terms of operational capability benchmarking, the MPATGM positions itself alongside advanced international systems such as the US FGM-148 Javelin (2.5-4 km range, 22.3 kg ready-to-fire weight) and Israel's Spike LR2 (5.5 km range, 13 kg missile weight), offering indigenous supply assurance and cost advantages.
