Description

The LIROD (LIghtweight Radar/Optronic Director) is a naval radar, electro-optic fire-control, and surveillance system operating in the K-band at 35 GHz. It features an elliptical paraboloid antenna array, 1 meter high and 0.4 meters wide, with a monopulse cluster that provides a narrow 0.55° elevation beam for excellent low-level target performance and a wider 1.5° azimuth beam for easy acquisition. The system, equipped with a Traveling Wave Tube transmitter, has an instrumented range of 24 km and supports ship defense and littoral operations with its stealth target detection capabilities. Produced since 1981 by Hollandse Signaalapparaten, the LIROD received a significant update in 1991 with the Mk 2 version, which is currently manufactured by Thales.
