VT-5

The NORINCO VT-5 is an advanced light tank designed for a variety of export customers from developing countries that don't require 50-ton class main battle tanks (MBTs) such as VT-4. The VT-5 is equipped with a 105mm riffled gun, that can fire piercing ammunition as well as anti-tank missiles, and a 12.7mm machine gun on a remotely controlled weapon station. The low cost VT-5 tank offers firepower, high mobility and situational awareness similar to heavier Western tanks such as the M1 Abrams and the Leopard 2. The 36-ton tank is provided with a crew of three-man and can operate in a variety of terrains such as desert, forest, mountain and urban areas. The VT-5 tank was showcased at the Airshow China in early November 2016. The tank design was completed in August 2017 with Bangladesh placing the first order in 2019. The 44 VT-5BD tanks ordered by Bangladesh were delivered in 2022.
