Description

The HJ-9 is a heavyweight, all-weather, long-range, anti-tank missile designed for launch from ground vehicles and introduced by the People's Liberation Army (PLA) in the late 1990s. Basically, the vehicle-mounted HJ-9 was designed to take out main battle tanks at ranges of up to 5,000 meters. The missile is provided with three alternative guidance systems: laser Semi-Automatic Command Line of Sight (SACLOS) (HJ-9); millimeter wave (HJ-9A); or laser-beam riding (HJ-9B). The HJ-9 is provided with a tandem shaped-charge warhead capable of piercing up to 1,200mm of armor. The warhead is also suitable against Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA) protected main battle tanks.
