Sprut-SDM1
The Russian Airborne Troops Sprut-SDM1, also known as 2S25M1, is an upgraded lightweight tank for airborne units equipped with the Invar-M anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) system. The Invar-M adds outstanding lethality against heavyweight tanks such as the M1A2 Abrams at ranges of 5,000 meters as well as the ability to take out helicopters and unmanned air vehicles thanks to a fully integrated digital fire control system. Besides, the upgraded tank is provided with night vision and automatic sight system. The Sprut-SDM1 is equipped with a new machine gun operated by the commander and a more powerful engine allowing increased mobility. The new lightweight tank was carrying out field trials during 2016 with the aim to field the new tank with the Airborne Troops starting in 2017. State tests on the new 2S25 were completed in August 2022 and deliveries are expected before the end of 2022.
