Description
The WXR-700X is an X-band solid-state color weather radar featuring forward-looking windshear detection. It utilizes a flat plate phased array antenna, producing a beam 2.5 degrees wide and 2.1 degrees high. Originally introduced in 1980, the WXR-700X received FAA flight certification for the Boeing 737-300 in 1995 and is also used in aircraft such as the Airbus A-300, A-310, and A-320. A military variant, the FMR-200X, serves as a replacement for AN/APN-59 and AN/APS-133 radars, notably installed on U.S. Air Force KC-135s; a C-band ground-based weather radar version, the WXR-700C-G, was also attempted.
