T-90S

The T-90S advanced fire control system permits to engage targets at night and all-weather conditions firing on the move or stationary with a great probability of kill. The advanced fire control system with two sights provided to the gunner and the commander means hunter-killer capability for the T-90S MBT. Kontakt-5 multi-layer armor, Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA), and an TShU-1 Shtora-1 advanced electro-optical countermeasures system provides enhanced survivability against anti-tank weapons, even against those features top-attack mode. The Shtora-1 system has IR-emitters and laser countermeasures. Kontakt-5 armor in the front section is equivalent to 800-830mm thick of conventional armor against armor piercing discarding sabot (APDS) rounds and 1,150-1350mm against high explosive anti-tank (HEAT) projectiles. The T-90A is powered by an economic V-84MS multi-fuel diesel engine with an optional V-92S2 1,000-hp diesel engine available for export customers (T-90S). The T-90SK is a command and control version featuring improved communications. The T-90S entered active service with the Russian Army in 1993. India and Algeria as well as other countries are the export customers for the T-90S with more than 2,000 ordered or on order. Venezuela may become an export customer for the T-90 tank in the near future. India will become the largest T-90 operator in the world with more than 1,600 tanks with many of them to be assembled locally under license in India. All in, more than 3,600 T-90 tanks may be produced for the Russia and export customers worldwide.
