Description

The German Federal Police (Bundespolizei) OPV 86 have been designed to perform as an Offshore Patrol Vessel being 86 meters long. These ships are equipped with flight deck, hangar, tactical radar, four interceptor boats and a Bofors 57mm Mk 3 gun at the bow. These vessels will provide support for operations of a single medium-sized 12-ton helicopter such as the H215 Super Puma and up to four fast boats. The propulsion system has been modified compared with the OPV 80 and is based upon a combination of diesel and electric engines (PTI) to achieve improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions. The German Federal Police ordered three vessels in December 2016 from Fassmer Shipyard with the first unit to be commissioned in 2020 and to be operated by the German Coast Guard. These vessels are due to operated in the North and Baltic Seas.
